Privacy policy
Effective
This policy explains what information Misty collects, why, and the choices you have. It covers the Misty apps for Android, iOS and desktop, and the website at mistys.co.
Who we are
Misty is operated by IGOR BEZRUCHKO PR BEOGRAD, a sole proprietorship registered at Čika-Ljubina 12, stan 3, Beograd, Serbia, with registration number 68526205 and tax ID 115650152. We are the controller of the personal information described here. Send questions and requests to us at hello@mistys.co.
What we collect
Browsing without an account
You can read the perfume encyclopedia without signing in. We then receive only what any server receives with a request, described under The website and the API.
Your account
To create an account you give us your email address. You sign in with a password or with a one-time code sent to that address. Sign-in is handled by Sole ID, our account service.
If you take part in the community, you choose the name you write under. That name is shown next to everything you publish.
Your library
Misty keeps what you add to it: your shelves and the perfumes on them, the notes you write about a perfume, and the history of what you looked up. Your library is private to you and synchronised with our servers, so you can use more than one device.
Opinions and reviews
You can say what you think of a perfume, such as how long it lasts or whether you like it. Your individual opinions are not shown to anyone; they are counted together with everybody else's into the public picture of each perfume.
Reviews are public. A review, its photographs, your community name and the date are shown to everyone who reads about that perfume. Photographs you attach to a review have their hidden metadata, such as location and camera details, removed before anyone sees them, and are published only after a moderator approves them. Readers can report a review, and moderators may hide a review or stop an account from reviewing when it breaks the rules in our terms of use.
Photographs you search with
When you photograph a bottle to find out what it is, the photograph is uploaded to our servers. Before anything looks at it, we remove its hidden metadata, such as where and on what it was taken, and delete the original upload. We keep the cleaned photograph, the answer we gave and anything you tell us about that answer, such as which perfume it really was, so you can see your past searches.
To make recognition better, a member of our team may look at a photograph you searched with, and may add it to the reference pictures Misty recognises bottles from. A reference picture is never shown to other people and is not linked to your account.
Before the photograph is sent, the app may read the label text on the bottle with your device's own text recognition. That reading happens on your device and is sent with the photograph.
The website and the API
mistys.co does not use cookies, analytics or advertising. Our servers keep standard request logs, such as IP address, browser or app version and the address requested, to keep Misty secure and working and to stop abuse.
What stays on your device
The camera is used only when you photograph a bottle or a review picture, and only after you allow it. The apps keep a copy of the encyclopedia pages you opened so they can show them offline.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- provide Misty and keep your library in sync across your devices;
- sign you in and keep your account secure;
- recognise the perfumes you photograph, and make recognition better;
- publish your reviews and keep the community safe;
- work out the public picture of each perfume from everyone's opinions;
- answer your questions and requests.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or build profiles about you.
Legal bases
We process personal information under Serbia's Law on Personal Data Protection and, for people in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR. We rely on these legal bases:
- Contract for your account, library, opinions, reviews and searches, which we need to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests for improving recognition with the photographs you search with, for moderation and for security logs, which keep Misty accurate and safe. You can object at any time by writing to us.
- Consent for camera access, which you can withdraw in your device settings.
Who we share it with
What you publish, your reviews, their approved photographs and your community name, is visible to everyone. Apart from that, we use service providers who process information on our behalf and only on our instructions:
- Cloud hosting and storage providers run our servers and store your account, library and photographs.
- Email delivery providers send the one-time codes and messages about your account.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service. If Misty is sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new operator, who must keep this policy's promises.
International transfers
Our providers may process information outside your country. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, library, opinions, reviews and searches while your account exists. You can remove a search, a review or anything in your library at any time, and it is deleted with its photographs. When you delete your account, we delete your information from our servers within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep something longer.
A review photograph a moderator declined is kept for thirty days, so the decision can be reviewed, and then deleted. Reference pictures a team member added to recognition are not linked to you and stay after your account is deleted; ask us and we will remove one you took.
Your rights and choices
You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your information, and to restrict or object to how we use it. You can also complain to Serbia's Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection (poverenik.rs) or to the data protection authority where you live.
- Correct: edit your community name, library and reviews in the app.
- Delete: remove searches, reviews and library entries in the app, or ask us to delete your account.
- Anything else: email hello@mistys.co. We answer within one month.
Children
Misty is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and photographs are kept in private storage that only our services can read. Access to our systems is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep your devices locked.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
